But unlike banks, pay day lenders, and currency exchanges motivated by making a profit, the nearly five-year-old institution, housed near the Red Line "El" Station at Garfield Boulevard, is devoted to building financial assets within the community.

A revamped New Communities Program for Washington Park is sparking excitement and discussion as newcomers and veterans of the five-year-old effort have been convened by Ald. Willie Cochran (20th). The new group, called NCP/Washington Park, aims to produce a quality-of-life plan and more neighborhood progress.
